Ambitious young chef brings taste of Mediterranean to Saddleworth

AN AMBITIOUS young chef is bringing a taste of the Mediterranean to Saddleworth after opening the doors of his new authentic takeaway.

Anthony Owens, 21, fired up the pizza ovens and got the pasta pans ready at Antonio’s Express Italian on Mansfield Road, Micklehurst in December after more than a year scouting out and planning his venture.

And the chef insists his love of fresh ingredients to create delicious Italian cuisine will give him an edge.

“We’re not just a takeaway,” explained Anthony. “We offer restaurant-quality food cooked to order and delivered right to your door.

“I have a lot of Italian friends so I’m influenced by that culture. I worked in Feratti’s at Mossley for years but have always dreamed of having my own place.

“University wasn’t for me so I just decided to take the plunge and do my own thing.”

With a helping hand from family, friends and girlfriend Alexandra Beeley to clean up, lay a new floor and install sparkling new counters, Anthony has transformed the former fish and chip shop.

In pride of place is a new pizza oven and open plan kitchen, where diners can watch their orders being freshly tossed, rolled and baked.

Anthony will serve up the food – from starters, mains courses of pasta, risotto, pizza or salads to desserts – along with Igor Correie and has two drivers on hand to deliver.

“Igor found the shop and we’re in a great location, right at a crossroads for Mossley, Ashton and Saddleworth,” Anthony said. “I’m very excited to be open for business!”

  1. It’s always good to hear youngsters making a go of a business and I wish Antonio’s every success. Well done!
It is a pity Ms Kirkbride couldnt wish him and the team luck instead of being a boundary snob!

  2. I wish Antonios every sucess but agree with Jacqui. Micklehurst is not in Saddleworth and, before you scream boundary snob, if the article had said that Micklehurst WAS in Saddleworth I am sure that the real Boundary snobs would have been out in force.
