FESTIVAL OLDHAM is back this Bank Holiday weekend and is celebrating its twentieth birthday with a feast of delights in Oldham.
The borough’s annual free celebration of art takes place on Saturday, May 27, from 11am to 4pm at various sites across the town centre and Gallery Oldham.
This year the festival is celebrating 20 years of art and entertainment in Oldham – with a culinary twist.
The theme is a ‘feast of delights’ and will include mind-boggling entertainment, food-centric fanatics and infectious music for visitors to enjoy.
Get involved in a cook off like no other with Culinary Duel – an interactive comedy outdoor dance and theatre performance.
Listen to the best of brass from international guests The Always Drinking Marching Band – all the way from sunny Barcelona.
Watch Maypole dancing with a unique hip-hop twist from Folk Dance Remixed and head to Oldham Parish Church for children’s theatre, festival flag making and outdoor crafts.
The loveable puppet show Kit and Caboodle will be in Gallery Oldham throughout the day telling magical tales to visitors.
If that’s not enough, there’s lots more street theatre and entertainment dotted across the town centre all day.
Helen Lockwood, Executive Director for Economy, Skills and Neighbourhoods, said: “Festival Oldham has been a long-standing event in the town centre and is always a real crowd pleaser.
“Every year thousands of people come to Oldham to watch the colourful acts for free.
“This year we have gone for a food theme to celebrate the opening of the new Old Town Hall and accompanying food premises.
“There’s something for everyone and I hope residents and visitors come along on the day and enjoy the entertainment.”
Shoppers can enjoy free parking for up to three hours at all Oldham Council car parks on the weekend. But don’t forget to still take a ticket from the machine and display it in your vehicle. You can also get free parking for four hours in Spindles Town Square Shopping centre.
