Saddleworth suffered a 4.5-2.5 defeat at Stockport in the foursomes with past captain Charles Nicholson and Denise Brown (5 & 3) and 2014 captains Andy Dunster and Julie Ward (5 & 4) recording their victories. There was a halved match involving Allan Entwistle and Debra Cockburn.

That was followed a second-round defeat in the Daily Mail event at home to Stamford by 5.5-1.5 with Andy Dunster the lone winner while Stuart Potts halved his match.

With the City Glass Men’s Foursomes and the prestigious Dunham Forest Trophy singles matchplay to come, they are hoping fortunes improve.

Despite the unseasonal weather, the club has staged a number of competitions.

Runners up were Dave Pullen and C Hinde (44pts) while third place went to Stuart Potts and L Marland (43pts) on the card from Dean Jagger and A Hey.

Winners of a betterball Stableford were Nick Marner and John Knight on the card from runners-up George Knight and Alan Milnes and third placed Ian Bolton and Paul Glynn. All three pairings returned 50 points.

A strokeplay event saw Jon Fancy triumph with nett 69 while the best gross score was Paul Jackson’s 76.

Martin Heap (69) took the first division prize from Bob Arrowsmith (70) and Denis Lamb.

In division two the 1-2-3 were Alastair Wright (71), Paul Bolger and Andy Stott (74).

The Ladies Spring Meeting was won by Sue Booth with 36 points in the Stableford on the card from Pam Taylor who had the same score.

Janice Nicholson, Felicity Heginbotham and Jenny Knight teamed up to score 37 Stableford points for a runaway victory in a yellow ball team competition.

They finished five points clear of runners-up Pam Taylor, Sue Booth and Truda Dexter.
