Protecting your PC from malware – Advertisement feature by Danielle Skinner, Digital Marketer at Aspect IT
MALWARE IS on the rise and for those who don’t know what malware is, it is a piece of software designed to disrupt, damage and gain unauthorized access to a computer system.
This article will provide you with some basic tips to protect your PC and to stop it from becoming an easy target.
Software updates are very important: Microsoft and other companies regularly release updates for your PC and its software. They not only do this for general fixes and improvements, but also to close loop-holes and security flaws. So, keep your PC and its software up-to-date.
Be careful with links in emails: Have you ever received an email that requires you to click on a link to verify your details? It is more than likely a scam for people to get in to your system.
If you don’t recognise the sender’s email or if there is no confirmation as to who it is, then do not click on the link and immediately delete the email.
Install anti-virus software: Anti-virus software will provide additional help in to protecting your PC.
It is recommended you get an anti-virus package such as Avast (which also has free versions) so then you can worry less about your PC.
Use a strong password: Ideally use a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters so that it’s more complicated. Do not use your date of birth or something so simple to guess.
Back up your computer: Back up all your files in case the original file gets damaged or lost. You can use free file storages such as Google Drive and Dropbox.
