Bags cash will help grow Forest School

A SPRINGHEAD school is turning blue into green with a large slice of help from hundreds of shoppers across Saddleworth. The green shoots of a new Forest School project will soon be starting to show at Knowsley Junior School, Stoneleigh Road after bagging £4,000 from Tesco’s blue token scheme.

Knowsley scooped the top amount of funding from the Bags for Help initiative which supports local community projects.

Outdoor Pursuits received £2,000 and StopSO UK received £1,000.

The welcome windfall will provide an outdoor learning area which youngsters will be able to access in all weathers. There are plans also to transform an overgrown wildlife pond.

An area of land will be set aside for the provision of a gardening club for children as well as being available to their parents. In time, produce will be donated to community groups.

“It is all about adding cultural capital to our children’s lives,” said headteacher Vanessa Payne.

“Having these new facilities will be so beneficial for pupils in terms of enhancing their scientific and geographical knowledge.”

Tesco community champion, Greg Barratt, attended a recent morning assembly to hand over the bumper cheque.
