Ball is brilliant end to busy fundraising year for Saddleworth WI

A BUSY fundraising year for the Saddleworth WI came to a close in style as they partied away at a Mad Hatter’s Ball.

There were eye-catching costumes galore for the event at the Saddleworth Hotel as guests were entertained by the Queen of Hearts, White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter himself.

It was a glittering conclusion to a successful fundraising year which saw the WI hold a host of events for their chosen charities: Saddleworth Rangers, Homestart and Oldham Support for Carers of Autism.

Events included a fashion show, launching a ‘Jam and Jerusalem’ 2018 Calendar in conjunction with Saddleworth Rangers; and their popular Christmas Markets at Saddleworth Hotel.

There were also enjoyable day trips for members to Beamish in the summer and the Christmas markets in Chester, fish and chip suppers, afternoon teas and tapas evenings.

Their sub-groups also organised trips to the theatre, a monthly walk, handicrafts, and the singing group rounded off the year with their Christmas spectacular at the December meeting.

The WI said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Saddleworth Hotel for their continued support, Woolly Knits for the use of their premises for the calendar shoot and to everyone who has contributed in any way to our fundraising events this year.

“Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year!”
