A TWENTY-YEAR absence for a much-loved band is coming to an end as they regroup from across the world to perform in Holmfirth.
The Million Billion Band was the brainchild of Terry Oldham (Maurice Million) and Paul Errock (Boris Billion) in 1989, and the horn section soon followed, led by Toby Livings (Professor Opus D. Fonque) from Delph.
The band started playing rock and blues classics but quickly moved to Soul, with a bent towards the raw sound of Stax with a bit of reggae, ska and even some jazz.
Venues played include packed houses at Barnsley Blues Club, Norfolk Gardens in Stoke, Oscar’s and Hawthorns in Bolton, The Cotton Bar in Rennes, France and Club 57 in Oldham.
And now they are returning to the stage after two decades to perform at the Picturedome in Holmfirth on Saturday, July 19.
As well as The Professor on trumpet, Boris Billion on vocal and Maurice Million on guitar – who is travelling from New Zealand from the gig – the band comprises Phil Harrop on trombone, Matt Norton on bass, and Dan Hough on drums.
Karlo Zaparelli, the original sax player, is currently in China so his place is being filled by local jazz hero Rod Mason.
Rehearsals for the gig have been going on since July last year so the band promises a polished and energetic performance.
The Million Billion Band will be playing at Holmfirth Picturedrome on Saturday, July 19. Doors open 7.30, Tickets cost £10 and are available online: www.picturedrome.net
