Community Brew sessions are a treat at Satellite Centre

COMMUNITY Brew sessions at the Satellite Centre are going down a treat with locals.

The sessions are held on the second Monday of each month from 10.30am-midday, offering tea and coffee, homemade cakes and biscuits, along with friendly chat.

The team goes into 2019 keen to build on their great success of the past 12 months when a total of £1,760 was raised for local and national charities.

Led and co-ordinated by Liz Rooke, the team is planning to support twelve charitable causes in the year ahead, including Marie Curie, Oldham Mountain Rescue, Francis House Children’s Hospice, Oldham Diabetes Voluntary Support Group, Friendship Friday for the visually impaired, Parkinsons, Macmillan Cancer Support, Bright Futures School, Street Scene Greenfield and Home Instead’s Santa to Senior Project.

“Our success has relied on support from a lot of people whom we thank for all their hard work,” said Liz.

“We especially thank Christine Wilson (OMBC Community Development Officer), Jane Bevan (the Satellite’s Body Mind and Well-being Project Officer) and all the volunteers from Street Scene Greenfield for making and serving the delicious homemade cakes and drinks.

“We are also most grateful to the Home Instead team for their great publicity posters and for our tea/coffee supplies.”

Monies are raised from a £2 entry charge, a raffle with a generous range of prizes and from donations.

“We’d love to see you here,” added Liz. “Everyone is very welcome.”

• A well-being drop-in café will be starting at the Satellite Centre on Thursdays at 10.30am-12.30pm early in 2019.

If you want to get out of the house, or if you fancy a brew and a chat, just pop in.
