Diggle café Grandpa Greene’s wins gold in prestigious national awards

IT is three cheers for Grandpa Greene’s after they received a gold award in the Best Independent Café/Coffee Bar category of the national ‘The Café Life Awards’.

The ice cream parlour and café in Diggle opened in 2005 but the business dates back to 1920, when they started making ice cream in a wooden churn.

Today, they still serve the mouth-watering luxury ice cream in a huge variety of flavours, as well as coffee, sandwiches and an extensive food menu.

The Café Life Awards recognise excellence and encourage innovation in the important UK café and coffee bar sector.

Rick Scholes, Grandpa Greene’s Sales Director, said: “We are thrilled to be recognised by The Café Life Awards.

“We are so proud of everything we do at Grandpa Greene’s, from the luxury handmade ice cream where the business began to our current position as a café.

“We take great pride in our work and only hope to continue and improve the legacy of Grandpa Greene’s.”

Gethin Evans of the Café Life Awards, said: “Grandpa Greene’s has a great back story and the business has seen an incredible growth from its early life.

“The judges were wowed by the quick service and good quality food and noted the appeal of Grandpa Greene’s to a wide demographic of customer.

“The team have responded to the growing café culture and developed a business that serves the local community, whether passing by for an ice cream or a bite to eat.”
