The forward is currently excelling at Super League side Warrington Wolves, where he was handed a three-year contract.

Now the Independent has been told the African nation wants him to play for them later this year in Nigeria.

Former London Broncos player Ade Adebisi is spearheading the push to get the game established in the nation.

He has already secured the Middle East-Africa Championships for the country and will pick players from Super League, Championship and even Australia’s NRL.

But Doro, who came through at Rangers while studying at Bluecoat School, is on his list of people he wants to speak to.

“We’ve been trying to get hold of Eribe,” Adebisi told the Independent from Nigeria.

“It’s been a struggle because I’ve been in Nigeria but he’s certainly on a list of people I’d want to talk to.

“We definitely would like him to play for us in the Middle East-Africa Championships.

“Nigeria has the budget to fly players over from the UK and we will also make sure they will be looked after.”

Eribe, who hails from Derker, has already represented England’s youth side after a meteoric rise through the ranks after only taking up rugby league as a teenager.

Now he could find himself lining up alongside the likes of NRL star Jayden Okunbor, Australian Schoolboy international Jason Saab and Super League players Tuoyo Egodo and Sadiq Adebiyi.

The Middle-East Africa Championships take place in Lagos in early October and also feature Morocco, Ghana and Cameroon.

As a youngster, Eribe played football, cricket and basketball but says it was only after he went to secondary school that he got the chance to play rugby.

He explained: “I played a school game and one of my mates suggested joining Saddleworth Rangers, and that is how it began.”

  1. Eribe Doro would be a massive acquisition for a Nigerian national rugby league team. Most of the existing Nigerian or Nigerian heritage professional players are outside backs. The national team needs spine players and forwards. Doro is an outstanding prospect as a prop at Warrington Wolves, He would bolster Nigeria’s prospects of qualifying for the 2025 World Cup.
