Ex-Gladiator star to talk about turn to Christianity

A STAR from the hit TV show Gladiators is visiting Saddleworth on Friday, December 7 to share how his life changed drastically after taking turn for the worse.

Warren Furman found fame as Ace in the popular ITV show in the 1990s and enjoyed a celebrity lifestyle, becoming engaged at one stage to glamour model Katie Price, aka Jordan.

But now he has turned his back on showbiz after finding it empty of meaning and contentment and instead he is on a spiritual journey to explore the purpose of his life.

He studied eastern religions but became interested in Christianity after meeting businessman and philanthropist Julian Richer, the founder of Richer Sounds, who suggested he should explore the faith.

“Christianity has transformed my life, so I know it can transform other’s lives too,” Warren said.

He will be speaking at the event, organised by Men Unite, on Friday, December 7 at The Royal George on Manchester Road in Greenfield, starting at 8pm.

Men Unite exists to help men in Saddleworth and surrounding areas on their journey of faith.

Tim Cooke, who leads the group, said: “Most blokes will see what Warren had as living the dream – fame, money and women. But as he found out there was still an emptiness inside.

“Men Unite exists to encourage men in Saddleworth to explore the deeper issues in life, and this next event promises to be a real cracker.”

Men Unite was formed in 2017 and is made up of a core group of around 12 men from different churches in Saddleworth.

They meet on the first Saturday of each month for a breakfast at Caffé Grande Abaco in Uppermill from 7.30am-9am and on the second Monday of each month at the Kingfisher pub in Greenfield from 7.30pm-9pm for ‘Beer and Bible’ where they chat through life and faith.

Previously, they have completed sponsored walks, raising several thousands of pounds for cancer charities, held two quiz nights, and a sportsman’s meal.
