DELVE INTO the history of Greenfield as Saddleworth Historical Society hosts its annual village lecture on Wednesday, June 14 at 7.30pm.
The Lecture on ‘Greenfield – from the 19th Century to the 21st: the Making of a Saddleworth Village’ will be given by local historian Michael Fox.
The lecture was originally scheduled to take place at Greenfield Conservative Club but following its shock closure after 123 years, it will be at Boarshurst Band Club.
The closure of the Conservative Club is just the latest chapter in over a century of change which Mr Fox will investigate, aided by his unparalleled archive of old photographs collected over many years.
Mr Fox, whose father ran a hardware shop on Chew Valley Road and grandfather worked at Greenfield Mill, has lived in Saddleworth his whole life.
His talk will be a historical tour of a vibrant community, touching on shops and pubs, church and chapel, mills and farms, and roads and railways.
‘Greenfield – from the 19th Century to the 21st: the Making of a Saddleworth Village’ is at 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 14 at Boarshurst Band Club, Greenbridge Lane, Greenfield, OL3 7EW. All are welcome. Members are free, non-members £3.
