MORE than 100 people gathered for a special 80th birthday celebration for community stalwart Margaret Hardy.
Margaret, a dedicated fundraiser and community member, invited family and friends – some of whom attended Uppermill Secondary School with her – for the occasion at Diggle Band Club.
The ‘small’ gathering swelled to more than 100 people who tucked into a delicious Afternoon Tea of home-made sandwiches and cakes.
Margaret, who reached the landmark age on February 1, said: “I said I didn’t really want to do anything but my daughters insisted!
“I’ve always said if I live to 80 it would be an achievement as both my parents died in their 60s.”
Margaret asked for guests to bring donations for Saddleworth Church instead of birthday presents, and raised £320.
