A SUMPTUOUS afternoon tea at the White Hart raised £1,440 in aid of Malignant Melanoma Research.
Organised by Jennifer Greenwood, from Lydgate, there was live music, a vocalist, dancing and quizzes.
A further £52 was made on the sale of cards featuring four paintings of local scenes donated by Dobcross artist Kevin Haynes.
Kevin, who was diagnosed with cancer himself six years ago, decided to support Jennifer’s fundraising efforts after attending last year’s afternoon tea event.
He also presented a print of one of his paintings, which was auctioned off to Paul Cannings of Stalybridge, to boost funds along with further sponsorship by Norman Dean.
In total, Jennifer has raised £23,056.74 for research into Malignant Melanoma since losing her son Gareth to the disease in 2009.
She said: “It is wonderful to know that all the money raised is making a positive difference and helping people to make a recovery from this dreadful illness.
“The cards are still on sale and I challenge anyone to look at these paintings and not smile.”
The cards are on sale at £6 for a pack of four, available directly from Jennifer on 01457877935 or at the White Hart, Lydgate. Visit Kevin Haynes’ website to see his artwork work: http://www.kevinhaynesart.co.uk/.
