Join Saddleworth Peace Group for Holocaust Memorial Day vigil in Uppermill

Locals gather at the Holocaust Memorial Peace Vigil in Uppermill last year

COMMEMORATE Holocaust Memorial Day with Saddleworth Peace Group at a vigil on Sunday, January 27 in Uppermill.

The event starts in Uppermill Square at 2pm and will include brief speeches and a silent vigil.

Special guests the Mayor of Oldham and MP Debbie Abrahams have been invited to attend.

A group from Oldham Theatre Workshop will attend and make a contribution to the event.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2019 is ‘torn from home’, encouraging people to reflect on how the enforced loss of a safe place is part of the trauma faced by anyone experiencing persecution and genocide.

After there will be refreshments in the Methodist Church coffee lounge.

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place every year on January 27 to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of people killed under Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. January 27 marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
