Lees remembers: Poppies, flags and silhouettes fill village for Remembrance Day

LSG Business Hub worked hard to adorn Lees with poppies, flags and silhouettes of soldiers for Remembrance Day.

The poignant silhouettes were made by Simon Mound at Sub Space Studio and the poles and flags were erected by Metalology.

As well as the poppies on lamp posts from the Royal British Legion, red poppies made by Year 6 at St Thomas’ Leesfield CE Primary School were placed on the railings between Mellor Street and Elliott Street bearing the names of six local men who died in WW1 and purple Poppies made by St. Thomas’ Leesfield Sunday School.

Other poppies with names of local fallen soldiers were made by Knowsley, St. Edwards RC and St Agnes primary schools and placed in business windows around Lees and Springhead.

Lots of hard work behind the scenes from LSG Business Hub members paid off, with the village looking amazing.

They received many lovely comments and lots of well deserved praise including “We felt proud marching through our village on Remembrance Sunday” and “The flags and displays in the windows and on the fronts of businesses were absolutely brilliant”.
