Guests at the event at Muse, Uppermill, were treated to ‘A day in the life of a Youth Worker’ as they heard from Leo Case, Senior Zone Coordinator at Mahdlo.

He said: “It’s a really inspiring place to work and no two nights are the same.

“You could be watching a young person climb the climbing wall for the first time, listening to a new music performance or supporting a member with a problem they’re facing.

“Sometimes if a young person has a serious issue, as a safeguarding lead, it can be gone midnight before I get home. We’re here to help young people no matter what they need.”

Saddleworth-based Jess Taylor shared her experiences as a Mahdlo Mentor and the support she gives to young people, including Ellie.

“We have such a great time together and it’s nice knowing I can help, especially with some of the issues and problems she faces,” said Jess.

“There are times when I don’t have all the answers but the team at Mahdlo are on hand to support and guide me.

“It’s such a rewarding role and I’d highly recommend it to anyone.”

The event was sponsored by Muse and the Fundraising Group Chair Jason Dixon, CEO of Vdocs.

Over £1,000 was pledged by guests on the night, which will be used to support Mahdlo’s successful mentoring programme.

The mentoring team is organising a drop-in for anyone interested in mentoring a young person aged 12-16 at Mahdlo on Wednesday, January 17 from 4-6pm and then on Saturday, January 20 from 2-4pm.
