A GREENFIELD-BASED arts group is among those selected to bring their creative ideas to life as Oldham celebrates its year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture.
Phantasmagoria CIC, based in the old Co-Op building on Manchester Road, will be responsible for The Secret Suitcases: Eight Wondrous Oldham Worlds.
It is one of a number of projects involving 13 local artists, schools, charities and community groups across Oldham as part of Oldham’s Town of Culture programme, Rising Up.
It will see communities across the borough get involved in a wide range of creative activities, from theatre, film and music to murals, embroidery and artwork.
Local creatives were invited to apply for a Town of Culture micro-commission earlier this year, with 84 applications received, with the 13 projects now been selected for funding.
The successful artists and organisations are:
- Sew Oldham – Isobel Pickup and Fay Buchanan
- A New Mural for Oldham – Deggy Art
- Rising Faces – New Bridge School SEND
- The Sounds of Oldham – Calvin Thomas
- 240 Years of Tommyfield – OL1 Oldham
- BanglaFest – Niparun Nessa
- Oldham Rising: Stories of Belonging – Eric Steele and Hack Oldham
- Held in Place – Jennifer Reid
- Obumu – Audrey Murphy and Support and Action for Women’s Network (SAWN)
- Warm Fuzzy Feels in Oldham – Oldham Play Action Group
- Bus Ride to Boom Town – Lisa Whiteside and ACT on Oldham
- The Secret Suitcases: Eight Wondrous Oldham Worlds – Phantasmagoria CIC
- Rising Together – Indian Association Oldham and Saheli Women’s Group
The projects will take place at different venues and events across the borough throughout Oldham’s Town of Culture year, celebrating the people, places, cultures and stories that make up the town.
