THEY will be dancing in the streets of Uppermill next month as the Civic Hall hosts a Motown revival show.
Fronted by Roy G Hemmings, one of the longest serving members of the Drifters, ‘Reach Out To Motown’ is a celebration of more than half a century of the distinctive American music style.
The show on Saturday, April 28 also features ‘the Love Supremes’ and ‘the Tops and Tempts’ playing tribute to Motown’s legendary vocal groups.
Under the musical direction of acclaimed arranger and saxophonist Anna Brooks, the seven-piece Dictionary of Soul band, which comprises some of Britain’s top musicians, provides the accompaniment.
So, expect to listen and boogie the evening away to classic hits such as: Baby Love, Dancing in The Street, My Girl, I Can’t Help Myself, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Reach Out and many more.
Roy, who worked alongside Drifters founder Johnny Moore for 10 years, has enjoyed a ca-reer spanning four decades.
His appearances include several Royal Variety shows in London and twice at the White House in Washington.
And hand’s up those who remember ‘Disco Music, I Like It,’ produced by Pete Waterman?
Recorded by the J.A.L.N. Band in the mid 1970s on the cusp of the disco revolution, Roy was a member of the group.
Tickets for the ‘Reach Out to Motown’ show are now on sale from Uppermill Post Office, online at: www.ticketline.co.uk or by ringing: 01457 819350.
