Local Olympian Nicola White will enjoy a homecoming event on Friday, September 2 after helping Great Britian’s women’s hockey team win gold in Rio in August.
Nicola, who once played for Saddleworth Hockey Club, played a key part in the competition, including scoring a vital equaliser to send the final against the Netherlands into a penalty-shootout.
Great Britain won the shootout along with the country’s first-ever gold medal in women’s Olympic hockey.
Nicola, whose grandparents live in Delph, is Oldham’s first Gold medal winner since swimmer Henry Taylor took triple Gold at the London games in 1908.
To celebrate Nicola’s achievements a homecoming event will take place at Oldham Leisure Centre, Middleton Road, Oldham, organised by Oldham Council and Oldham Community Leisure.
At 2pm, Nicola will open the event with a short speech, which will be followed by a signing event and a photo opportunity.
