THE SUN smiled down on an extravaganza of music and entertainment as locals saw out the summer at the Party in the Park.
Hosted by Wake Up Delph at Delph and Dobcross Cricket Club, the event saw bands and performers take to the stage as party-goers of all ages enjoyed an afternoon on the grass.
Tenors of Rock, who are shortly to appear on the X Factor, performed as did local bands Spark and The Threetles, in celebration of 50 years of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
The Fantastics sang their chart hit from years ago ‘Something Old, Something New’ while The Kaiser Monkey Killers performed the best of The Kaiser Chiefs, The Artic Monkeys and The Killers.
And the entertainment was rounded off by Delph Band with a Proms Finale before a huge fireworks display finished the day, which was compered by Gilbert Symes.
“It poured down on Thursday when we were setting up the arena but the weather was kind on the day.
“All the entertainment was fantastic with a good mix for everybody and rounded off with a fantastic performance by The Kaiser Monkey Killers. All in all it was a brilliant event.
“I want to thank all the helpers and Delph people who volunteered and put in so much hard work because without them this wouldn’t happen each year.
Proceeds from the event will be used by Wake Up Delph, a non-profit making organisation run by volunteers and supported by businesses and sponsors, to benefit the community.
Formed seven years ago, the group’s projects include brightening up the village with flowers and they will host their next event – a Christmas lights switch-on – on November 30.
