FATE ENSURED Pauline Richardson was the winner of Lady Captain’s Prize at Saddleworth Golf Club.
And it was something for Pauline, a member of Saddleworth Wine Society, to toast as it was the first club major captured by the retired marketing manager from Grasscroft.
Pauline, a mother of three and grandmother of five, explained why destiny dictated she triumphed in the 36-hole competition.
“The first round was postponed through rain which was fate as I couldn’t have played as I was attending a 100th birthday party,” she said.
Pauline, who plays off a handicap of 29, described her nett scores of 71 and 75 as “two good, steady rounds”.
She added she is only ever going to play with golfers named Ann(e) in future competitions.
“I partnered Anne Head and Anne Allen in the first round and Ann Fitton in the second,” she joked.
Pauline has won major competitions before as in 2010 and 11 she captured back-to-back Chronicle Cups, but has since endured a barren spell of success.
Lady captain in 2013, Pauline joined Saddleworth in 2005 as she was looking for something to do in her retirement.
She said: “I had never done any sport before, but I would strongly recommend it to all ladies. I also took up bowling at Uppermill three years ago, and thoroughly enjoy that, too.”
Pauline finished five shots clear of runner-up Sue Knebel who has nett scores of 72 and 79 for 151.
The first-day prize went to Pam Tomlinson (91-18-73) and second round honours to Kay Orme (79-6-73).
