A GROUP of slimmers across Saddleworth and Oldham are pledging to step up to the ‘Walk All Over Cancer with Slimming World Challenge’ in aid of Cancer Research UK this August.
The slimmers who attend the local Slimming World groups, have each pledged a daily steps total and will be sponsored to hit their target by fellow members, friends and families.
As well as raising vital funds for charity, the members hope to raise awareness of the fact that keeping a healthy weight can reduce the risk of developing 13 types of cancer.
The slimmers taking part in the challenge have been encouraged to choose a step goal that is right for them – mirroring Slimming World’s flexibility.
Their generous eating plan allows members to satisfy their appetite tasty, everyday foods like roast dinners, curries, and pasta dishes, as well as taking part in activities they enjoy and that fit into their lifestyle.
The slimmers also have fantastic support from their groups, with fellow members giving encouragement and inspiration.
Weight loss consultant Claire Meyer, who runs the Uppermill Slimming World groups, said: “I’m so proud of all our members who have set themselves the challenge of walking more this August.
“At Slimming World, we encourage taking activity step by step and at a suitable pace until it becomes an enjoyable part of our daily routine.
‘With our body magic programme, members learn that getting active doesn’t have to be joining the gym or running marathons.
“It’s walking the kids to school, doing the gardening, hitting the dance floor-anything that raises the heart rate a little all counts.
“Any activity which boosts our step count will help our members reach their Walk All Over Cancer goal.”
