Simon says: New exhibition space opened in Lees

IT is not often these days you will get Liam and Noel Gallagher in the same room.

But you’ll find them in perfect harmony under one roof on Lees High Street together with a number of other music legends.

The Oasis boys are the creations of Springhead based artist Simon Mound.

So too are the superb images of George Michael, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie.

“There’s a bit of a theme that most of them are no longer with us,” says Simon who has set up a first floor gallery at the recently opened Subspace Studio at number 63.

“I’ve been painting since I was a teenager and I’ve always wanted to open a gallery for some time.”

Simon’s work is already familiar to the glitterati of the Manchester music scene. Pieces of his art are owned by Stone Roses’ front man, Ian Brown, and Smiths guitarist, Johnny Marr.

The striking exhibition is part of an ongoing project at Subspace who are also looking to bring new artists into the gallery giving them an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.
