Success for new-look Saddleworth Singers at popular Christmas Concert

A STYLISH new-look Saddleworth Singers took to the stage for their Christmas Concert at the Civic Hall in Uppermill.

For the ladies’ choir was sporting their brand new lilac uniform for the first time at their successful and well-loved annual event.

Sylvie Edwards, chairman of the choir, explained: “We were wearing all sorts of different things so we decided we needed to settle on something, and make it a bit different.”

The choir was accompanied by Oldham Band (Lees) for the evening as they sung a number of popular and festive songs.

And special items were performed after being arranged by Stephen Tighe, a local brass player, and incorporating the wishes of Hilary Henderson, the choir’s musical director.

They were ‘Gaudete’ by Michael Engelhardt and ‘Coventry Carol’, both arranged specifically by Stephen for a brass band and ladies’ choir.

The Saddleworth Singers are now ready for the new year, when they will continue to wear their new uniform at events, and their nominated charity is The M S Society.

They rehearse on Tuesdays at The Springhead Community Centre, Ashes Lane from 7.20-9.30pm. New members always welcome – call Sylvie for further details: 01457 514113.
