Top Lydgate hotel set for stylish extension

A UNIQUE and stylish extension is in the pipeline for a popular Lydgate hotel.

The White Hart Inn plans to create an eye-catching oak-frame Pavilion in its grounds, featuring open sides, a cosy fire pit, a hog roaster and a stone pizza oven.

It will be an extension of the popular Oak Room out into the gardens to create an extra space for guests to enjoy reception drinks at weddings and dinners, no matter the weather.

PLANS: An impression of the new oak Pavilion

Charles Brierley, owner of the White Hart, revealed he came up with the unusual design after enduring a typically wet Saddleworth summer.

He explained: “The idea for the Pavilion derived after the wettest summer on record in 2012, when the garden area adjacent to the Oak Room was used six times for reception drinks.

“The area will be ideal for civil wedding ceremonies, reception drinks and evening drinks area after weddings or dinners so guests can enjoy the gardens without getting wet!

“Obviously on hot summer days, we will still have the rest of the garden area to sit out in the sun.”

He added: “The design was inspired after seeing market halls when I visited Hay-on-Wye and Chipping Campden and should be very impressive.”

Charles hopes the new Pavilion – which received planning permission in October – should be completed and ready to welcome its first guests next spring.

The building work is the latest in a line of projects for The White Hart, which is currently renovating nearby cottages into four new suites to offer extra family accommodation.

All rooms will be finished to the highest standards just like the existing 12 ensuite guest bedrooms, including deluxe bathrooms, wifi and room service.

Guests can also dine at the hotel, which has an extensive food and drinks menu, and offers private rooms to cater for functions of all kinds.
