ANGEL CURTIS hardly lives up to her name after winning a world junior Thai boxing title at the age of 11 years.
The youngster from Moorside is certainly not one to argue with after landing the World Kickboxing Association’s junior 35kg belt.
And it maintained Angel’s 100-per-cent record from seven bouts since she took up the sport last summer with a points victory at Moston Sports Club over an opponent from Great King’s Muay Thai Boxing Club.
It has been a meteoric rise for the pupil from Hodge Clough Primary and reward for her dedication as she trains six times a week at Knuckles Muay Thai gym on Huddersfield Road with British champion Amy Lloyd.
Angel has been a member of Rushcroft Ju-Jitsu Club since the age of four and a black belt at the age of nine.
Dad Dean said: “Angel still does Ju-Jitsu, but wanted something more challenging and there is nothing more than Thai boxing.
“She is very committed and everything in her life is geared around kick boxing. She also does some training with professional boxer Marvin Greaves.”
The world title fight was a surprise and was thrust upon her at short notice as she had to lose eight pounds in weight between the Friday, when she was offered the fight, and the Sunday when she competed.
Angel’s next big date is in May when she competes in the British Championships in Birmingham.
