Festive fayre raises thousands for hospice care

MORE than 700 people braved the rain to pack out Dr Kershaw’s Hospice’s annual Christmas Fayre.

The recent festive fundraiser helped to raise over £7,500 for palliative and end-of-life care.

Despite the wet weather, the local community turned out in force at the Royton-based hospice.

Visitors donated gifts, volunteered their time and offered services free of charge – all contributing to the total raised for the hospice and the patients it supports.

“Everyone showed so much love for our hospice, and we are extremely grateful to our incredible volunteers and all the businesses who supported us,” said Alice Entwistle, Fundraising Events Lead at Dr Kershaw’s.

“Visitors also made a huge difference, whether they shopped at our stalls, took part in our festive games, or enjoyed our delicious food and drink options.”

The fayre offered activities for all ages. Alongside gift stalls, there was live music and performances from DJ Patrick Holden, the Amy Mackie School of Dance and Drama, and Oldham College.

Children were able to enjoy Christmas-themed games in an indoor games room and meet Santa at the Santa’s Grotto, while other attractions included a Santa’s Stables featuring a horse and pony, a giant inflatable snow globe, a raffle and the chance to make reindeer food.

The hospice thanked the event’s sponsor, Booth’s Garden Centre, and everyone who supported the day in any way, as it looks ahead to its programme of events in 2026.
