AN UNEXPLAINED death in Oldham is being investigated by police.
Just before 4.10pm on Wednesday 20 May 2015, police were called following a concern for welfare at a flat on Middleton Road, Oldham.
Officers attended and discovered the body of a 44-year-old man.A post mortem took place and revealed he had died from a single stab wound to the chest.
The man has been formally identified as Jonathan Alan Smith.
Officers are now working to establish what happened to Jonathan, who was also known as Johnny.
Detective Inspector Lewis Hughes said: “We were initially called by a concerned neighbour who said they had not seen Johnny for a few days and were worried.
“When we gained access to his flat, we found his body in the living room.
“At this moment in time, we do not know what has happened to him or whether a third party was involved in his death.”
“What we do know is Johnny was last seen in Chadderton town centre on 11 May and I would ask anyone who may have been in contact with him that day or up until his death to contact us as soon as possible.”
