GREENFIELD UNDER-11’S lifted the Tameside and District Cricket League Cup after defeating Austerlands by 29 runs in the final.

The Ladd Hill Lane youngsters had beaten Shaw and Glodwick en route to the final which Austerlands hosted.

Greenfield, who were put into bat, made 258 for three, though teams at under-11’s start with a 200-run total.

The top scorers were Thomas Mayor with 22 while Jack Livesey and Oliver Patrick scored seven apiece.

Austerlands made 229 for eight in reply, Daniel White, Thomas Mayor and Oliver Sleight each taking two wickets while Nathan Walker claimed one.

Meanwhile, Uppermill, hosts of finals day, made home advantage pay as they got their hands on a piece of silverware as they were winners of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League Twenty20 Cup, a competition sponsored by Pro Elite Sports.

But there was a dramatic finish to the final as Uppermill scraped home against league champions Glodwick with only one ball to spare.

Uppermill needed two runs to win off the last two ball with only one wicket standing as Andrew Jones scrambled the two off the penultimate delivery.

Glodwick had made 155, Matt Taylor taking three wickets for 21 runs while South African overseas amateur Cloete Buitendag hit 52 and Alex Grifftiths 43 as Uppermill made 156 for nine in reply.

In the semi-final, Uppermill overcame Saddleworth by a more decisive margin of seven wickets.

Saddleworth made 135 for nine and Uppermill were 139 for three in reply.

Elsewhere, James Howard scored a brilliant century as Saddleworth Cricket Club under-15’s lifted the Leicester Shield following a high-scoring final against Shaw.

James certainly rose to the occasion, hitting 14 fours in a knock of exactly 100 as Saddleworth amassed 205 for seven from their allotted overs.

Shaw put up a spirited fight before being restricted to 191 for nine as Saddleworth avenged last season’s defeat in the final.

The mainstays of the Saddleworth side throughout the season, in which they just missed out on their league, were James and Sam Holt.

James was a prolific run scorer while Sam, who was aged 12 for much of the season, is an all rounder who starred with both bat and ball
