IT WAS a night when the boys ‘reined’ supreme as Saddleworth and District Pony Club reflected on a successful year at their annual presentation of awards which was held at Austerlands Cricket Club.

The boys captured many of the prizes including five of the top six places in the lead rein equitation with Edward Mullin the winner and Oliver McCulloch claiming second place.
And the overall lead rein champion of champions was Edward while Oliver was again in second place.
The boys also headed the leader boards in the working hunters, showjumping, dressage, handy pony, mounted games and showing with Oliver Pass, Max Prenty and Santino Guarino the main award winners in these classes.
The primary/junior champion of champions was Alex Robinson with second place going to Saffron Ingham. And the intermediate/senior champion of champions was Caitlin Andres from runner-up Rosie Morrell.
The dry summer meant that Saddleworth and District Pony Club, which has over 100 active members aged between two and 21 years, was able to hold many rallies at its home field on Platting Road, Austerlands.
It was a contrast to the wet summer of 2012 when, according to district commissioner Penny Ridley, they managed to hold only two shows on home turf.
This time it has been busier than ever with novice and points shows, three-day rally, working hunter and showjumping classes. In addition there were dressage competitions at Friezland Arena and cross-country training at Somerford Park.
Other activities have included inter-branch and area competitions at both dressage and showjumping along with riding and safety classes.
During the winter, indoor rallies are held at Uppermill Civic Hall focusing on management training and gaining achievement badges.
