HEAD CHEF: Dan

At the King William IV on Chew Valley Road – known to most as the King Bill – new head chef Dan has spiced up the traditional pub menu with a few of his own contemporary dishes.

Using fresh food from local suppliers, classic meals include pies, suet puddings, burgers and fajitas, which are homemade from scratch.

The menu now also boasts restaurant-quality dishes at pub prices as Dan has introduced a selection of specials.

Favourites so far include the Chicken Caesar salad topped with a poached egg and double pork chops stuffed with goat’s cheese.

Landlord Tony Simpson commented: “Dan’s really taken it up a notch or two with what we’re offering and with the presentation of the food.

“He’s really doing well and the food is going down a storm. Without a doubt we have trebled the number of people coming here to eat.

“We’re not really known for our food, we’re more of a football pub, but I’m trying to get that balance now.

“It seems to be working as people are coming from further away as they have heard about our new meals and want to try it for themselves.”

A new Christmas Menu has also been launched so customers can feast at the cosy country pub this festive season with five courses for just £22 per person.

The menu offers mixed game terrine, King William cocktail, roasted butternut squash soup or Saddleworth smoked duck for starters.

The next course is a selection of cheeses, including Saddleworth smoked cheddar, which is followed by homemade mince pies, mulled wine or tea and coffee to round of the meal.

There is an appetising drinks menu to match the food, featuring award-winning Silver Owl real ale from Greenfield Brewery and Millstone Brewery’s Tiger Rut, as well as Black Sheep, Tetley’s and Doom Bar.
