WITH SPECTACULAR views and enviable facilities, Saddleworth Golf Club offers much more than just a haven for golfers.
Nestled on Wharmton Hill, above Uppermill, and surrounded by magnificent countryside, the clubhouse provides an idyllic and romantic location for weddings and celebrations.
The attractive ‘Ladcastle Suite’ function room with a dance floor can be hired for up to 100 guests, while there is more space available in the adjoining Sun Lounge for larger parties.
And club general manager Alastair Griffiths revealed it is fast establishing itself as one of the most sought-after places in Saddleworth by new couples.
He said: “The function room and the great views attract people who are looking for a dream location. It is becoming one of the most popular wedding venues in the area.
“It’s great for other events too, from birthday parties and anniversaries to Christmas events. We offer excellent food, superb grounds and extensive car parking – the perfect venue.”
Fantastic facilities are also available for golfers, who can enjoy a round of the 18-hole course, which boasts one of the highest tees in England at 1272ft, or relax in the clubhouse.
The bar and lounges, with large flat-screen TVs with Sky TV connection, are open to members, guests and green fee visitors and a snooker room provides entertainment as an alternative to golf or when the weather proves impossible.
For those who do wish to play, a practice green, two practice bunkers, practice nets and a practice putting green will help golfers of all abilities get off to a good start.
They can then enjoy the range, including artificial teeing areas for all-year practice and two-seater buggies for hire, or the indoor golf simulator.
Anyone wishing to brush up on their skills can take advantage of indoor golf lessons with computerised swing analysis from PGA Pro Rob Johnson, who also runs the Proshop.
And as spring approaches, the golf season will soon be well underway with competitions in both the Men’s and Ladies’ sections as well as six open competitions throughout the year.
The club, formed in 1904, also hosts ‘golf days out’ for groups looking for a fun, corporate or charity event and offers various personalised packages as well as summer golf days and winter specials.
“Alastair added: “As the sun starts to shine, people want to come here and enjoy their golf on the high quality course we can offer.
“The club is always looking to expand and improve facilities for both members and visitors.”
