CIVIC dignitaries joined locals and their animals for an annual carol service with a difference.
Even the weather was kinder on visitors and their pets this year for the Horseman’s service at Friezland horse arena in Greenfield.
Mayor of Oldham, councillor Ginny Alexander, was guest of honour together with husband and consort, Adrian Alexander.
The service was also attended by councillor Jamie Curley, chair of Saddleworth Parish Council.
Dobcross Brass Monkeys provided musical accompaniment while Reverend John Rosedale stepped in at the 11th hour for Reverend Canon Sharon Jones to lead prayers and carols.
Following the service in front of festively dressed dogs, ponies and horses, Father Christmas and his elves made a welcome appearance.
There was also mulled wine for the humans and treats for the canines.
The horse arena, accessed off Manchester Road, is run by volunteers from Friezland User Group (FUG).
The upkeep of the site and area is open to the public between events. Membership of the User Group is currently £10 per annum.
For more information how to join or availability of the arena contact Samantha Bailey on 07843 336534 or visit the group’s Facebook page.
