All change at Diggle FC

DIGGLE FC have had major player changes over the summer months with departures from last season’s squads and with more than 20 new signing to the club.

Clearly integrating the new players is to take time as results for the first team and reserves have shown.

Both Diggle sides opened the season with defeats in the Huddersfield and District League.

The first team lost 2-1 to last season’s title winners Linthwaite Athletic in division one while the reserves were beaten 7-1 at home by Moorside FC reserves in reserve division one.

In the first team’s opening game, Linthwaite struck first, before Diggle were awarded a penalty, which was missed. Linthwaite increased their lead midway in the second half before the local side pulled a goal back back from Jordan Holt.

Diggle pushed for an equaliser in the latter stages on the game but the Linthwaite keeper stood firm thwarting numerous chances created by the home side, in an encouraging display.

The first team has lost all four games while the reserves have one draw and four losses from five games with both sides bottom of their respective divisions.

As the club continues to celebrate its 60th anniversary year (1959-2019), they are holding a ‘Night at The Races’ race night, on Saturday, November 9 at Boarshurst Band Club, starting at 7.30pm. All players, ex and current, supporters, family and friends are invited.

Races are still available for sponsorship at £20 per race. For further information contact Richard Devy 07854130553 or email dickdev150@gmail.com
