An alternative approach to art

A UNIQUE gallery offering the finest contemporary work by emerging UK artists and art journalists has blossomed since being set up just 12 months ago.

And now founder Aleksandra Moczadlo, 28, hopes Saddleworth locals will take a keen interest and help take her ambitions to the next level as she moves to live in Delph.

Alt-Aesthetics launched on February 4 last year – Aleksandra’s birthday – to provide an alternative online space to art and it now represents 20 British artists and five writers.P11 alt aesthetics (1)

Since then the not-for-profit organisation has had more than 3,000 visits to their website, attracted 200 subscribers to their journal and has an active following on Facebook and Twitter.

Aleksandra, a full-time office worker who loves art, music and walking her basset hound Harold, said: “We believe art is for everyone, not just the culturally elite, and the purpose isto bring us back to ourselves.

“Our artists have a unique approach to art which often challenges our conceptions of art as a whole.  Our arts journal represents keen writers who explore various aspects of contemporary culture and its place within the modern world we live in.

“My aim is to increase the exposure of the artists involved with Alt-Aesthetics and to increase the public engagement in art. I hope to do my part in supporting the UK art scene through my website.”P11 alt aesthetics (2)

Art has always been central to life for Aleksandra, who worked from an early age as a promoter to an independent art society with initiatives including exhibitions, theatre performances, concerts and street arts festivals.

She has also worked with school children and challenging teenage groups before launchingthe independent gallery for young artists and arts journalists last year.

And after recently moving to live in Delph with her boyfriend, Aleksandra hopes to inspireresidents across the villages with the website as well as take part in local events.

She said: “Moving to Saddleworth we’re hoping to connect with local organisations and art centres with an aim to organise exhibitions and participate in culture fairs.

“We’re also open to submissions from any artists looking for a reliable online platform to display their works and who fit the philosophy of our organisation.”

“My boyfriend and I have been visiting the Saddleworth area regularly for quite some time. Apart from beautiful surroundings, I love the community feel and the warmness of the people I have met.

“I’m astonished by the variety of cultural events and community activities here. I’d love to be able to get involved in the community spirit and contribute to the Saddleworth artistic scene.”
