Another superb set of results at Crompton House

STUDENTS at Crompton House Sixth Form have once again showed their skill by surpassing last year’s best set of recent results.

An impressive 53 per cent of achieved all A*- B grades, with 25 per cent getting a clean sweep of A* and As.

Over 38 per cent of students at Rochdale Road in Shaw gained at least one A* or A grade and over 80 per cent of grades awarded were A*- C.

More than three quarters who applied to university entry to their first choice of university, with over 90 per cent achieving their first or second choice.

Katie Elphick was top achiever after earning an astonishing 5A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), for which she studied the poisonous plants of Great Britain.

She will be joined on the Biology and Human Sciences course at Oxford University by Abigail Evans, who gained an A* in Sociology and As in Psychology and Biology.

Brooke Crotty is moving on to read Human, Social, and Political Sciences at Cambridge and Cain Andrews, who was in the top six per cent in the country in his UCAT entrance exam, is moving on to study Medicine at the University of Manchester.

Crompton House’s dedicated apprenticeship support programme helped several students have secured top positions in local companies.

Marcel Holdip and Brooke Burgess have had their inductions at Softcat in Manchester, with Adam George starting at CBRE and Max Evans combining his love of physical geography and biology at Yorkshire Water.

The University of Manchester remains a popular destination with students, with Grace Fitzpatrick (A*, A, A, Physics with Astrophysics), Dan Abbott (A, A, B, Aerospace Engineering), Caitlin Clarke (A*, B, B, Psychology), Sophie Meyrick (A*, A, B, Architecture) and George McLean (A*, A*, A*, B, Politics, Philosophy & Economics) joining Cain there.

Head Girl Molly Williams (A, A, A, B, York), along with colleagues Lola Hogan (A*, A*, A, Lincoln), Alicia Cooke (A, B, B, Leeds) and Macie Goulding (A*, A*, A, Queen’s Belfast) will be reading Law.

Simbarashe Madume (A*, A*, A, A) will be studying Aerospace Engineering at Bristol, while both Tiger Yang (A, A, A) and Leon Gerrard (A, A, B) are both moving across the Pennines to Sheffield for Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Biomedical Engineering respectively

William Fitton (A*, A, A, A) will also be reading Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with Will starting at the University of Nottingham.

Crompton House’s Further Mathematics cohort achieved exceptional results, with 75 per cent of students achieving an A*. Luca Renfrew (A*, A*, A*, A) is taking this further, studying Mathematics at Durham.

Other top achievers include Katie Barnett (A, A, A) who will be moving on to the University of Leeds studying Biology and History & Philosophy of Science. Fiyinfoluwa Oyedeko (A*, A, A, A) will be starting her nursing course at King’s College London, James Taylor (A, A, A) is staying closer to home studying Quantity Surveying at the University of Salford.

“This wonderful year group has achieved a particularly rewarding set of outcomes, which are a fitting reflection of the quiet determination, character, and focus they have shown throughout their time in our Sixth Form.

“A pass rate of 99.8 per cent is an exceptional achievement, and we estimate that our progress measure will place the Sixth Form among the top 10 per cent nationally.
