Banners fly high for Walks of Witness despite wet weather

BANNERS flew high as churches across Saddleworth braved the rain to step out for their Walks of Witness on June 14.

A United Service in Uppermill brought together Saint Anne Lydgate, Christ Church Friezland, Ebenezer, Uppermill Methodist, Family Church Saddleworth, Saint Chad, Sacred Heart & Saint William, Kilngreen Mission Church and Holy Trinity Dobcross.

The various churches processed through their villages before marching to King George V Playing Fields for hymns and readings together.

Elsewhere in Greenfield, St Mary’s and Greenfield Methodist took part in a join walk of witness around the village led by the Right Reverend Mark Davies, Bishop of Middleton.

The walkers included 95-year-old Emma Roberts who made a special trip from Sale with her son William to enjoy the morning and also the evening’s brass band contest.

Meanwhile Delph and Denshaw enjoyed processions, services and walks of witness through their villages led by local brass bands.
