Bridgewater Hall opens doors for music from around the world

This December The Bridgewater Hall is continuing its series of relaxed performances and workshops featuring an array of fabulous music including folk, classical jazz and early music.

o20161006164057‘Be Hear Now’ is delivered by The Bridgewater Hall and LiveMusic Now, and One Education Music, devised specifically for special needs children and young people aged up to 19, who can bring along their families and carers to enjoy the music in a relaxed atmosphere.

The concerts are proving to be highly successful, attracting audiences from Greater Manchester and beyond.

For the December concert, The Bridgewater Hall is delighted to welcome Kabantu, a five-piece band from Manchester, who bring together music from all over the globe.

Their eclectic programme boasts a mixture of vocal harmonies from South Africa, Celtic reels, Brazilian samba and Balkan folk music.

Kabantu have performed at the BBC Proms, the BBC Free Thinking Festival, and on BBC Radio Three’s In Tune, and are regulars on the festival circuit.

The concerts take place during the school holidays and are followed by a workshop (split into two age related groups), where participants can reflect on the music and explore it further.

Sessions are led by Beth Bishop, experienced facilitator and SEN specialist Beth Bishop.  Kabantu are professional musicians from Live Music Now, who have been expertly trained to work with children with special needs.

The concert is open to all – and workshops are not compulsory. Anyone is welcome to come along to just sit back and enjoy the music in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

There will also be arts and crafts activities in the foyer for audiences to enjoy after the performance.

Paula Wilson, Learning and Participation Manager at The Bridgewater Hall, said: “Our concerts are becoming extremely popular and it’s a great opportunity for young people to come along with their families, friends and carers to enjoy some fantastic music together.

“Our audiences travel from all over the North West and it is fantastic to see familiar faces returning to this wonderful event.”

‘Be Hear Now’ will be on Friday, December 23 with the concert at 11-11.45 am followed by the workshop at 12noon-1 pm at the The Bridgewater Hall, Barbirolli Room.

Tickets cost £3 for the concert only or £5 for the concert and workshop. Family tickets cost £20 (for any 5 people).
