The weekend saw both junior and senior athletes battling it out at the annual Saddleworth Fell Race held amongst the hills around Pots and Pans.

Around 100 hill and mountain runners travelled from far afield to take part in what is deemed to be one of the UK’s ‘classic’ fell races.

The first races of the day saw junior athletes ranging from six to 16 years old competing over several routes suitable to their age groups.

The winners received individual medals and each competitor received a finishers goodie bag to take home with them.

In the afternoon, it was the turn of the adults to do battle over the gruelling three-mile course, which makes a steep climb onto Alderman’s Hill before traversing the moor to the Saddleworth War Memorial at Pots and Pans for the final steep descent into the secluded and picturesque Dick Clough.

Saddleworth Runners Club organise several local races throughout the year.
