CAPTAIN JACK Sparrow, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Emily Wilding Davison and Cruella D’Vil are an unlikely group of legends to find gathered in the same place…
But these heroes and villains – and 18 others – were all hunted down across Saddleworth’s countryside during the sixth annual Delph Donkey Scarecrow Trail.
Daring participants were tasked with naming them all after seeking them out on the scattered trail from the Old Bell Inn, on to Hillend, Delph Primary School, down Pingle Lane and back through the village.
First prize of a £50 voucher to spend at the Old Bell Inn was awarded to M Goodyer from Denshaw and second prize of two tickets for the 2013/14 season at the Millgate Centre went to John Hodges from Grotton.
Trailblazers named their favourite scarecrow as Captain Jack Sparrow of the Old Bell Inn, securing the four-star accredited establishment’s victory for the second year running.
Second favourite was Sponge Bob Square Pants and equal third were Emily Wilding Davison and Cruella D’Vil.
Around £400 was raised and will go towards Delph Library and village improvements.
