Cavern Beatles celebrate Golden Anniversary of MBE

A HIT show will bring music that has influenced three generations to Oldham to mark 50 golden years since The Beatles discovered they were to be awarded MBEs.

On February 9, 1961, The Beatles made their first of their 292 appearances at the now legendary Cavern Club in Mathew Street, Liverpool.

Just four years later, in May 1965, the Fab Four were each honoured with an MBE from the Queen for their services to music.

Now, five decades later, the event is being remembered by The Cavern Beatles, who are official ambassadors of ‘the most famous club in the world’.

The band, widely regarded as being as close to the real thing as it’s possible to get, are back on tour and are visiting the Oldham Coliseum on May 5.

Be prepared to enjoy all the hits of the Fab Four in a live two-hour show with breath-taking attention to detail, including exact reproduction of 1960’s instruments.

The show is a Magical History Tour through the works of the greatest pop music phenomenon.

The show replicates the excitement and energy of Beatlemania, the psychedelic era of Sgt. Pepper, and the creative masterpieces of The White Album and Abbey Road.

Cavern Beatle Rick Alan said: “It is incredible that The Beatles music is still as powerful and relevant today, half a century since the band found out about being awarded an MBE from the Queen and Prime Minister. I can only describe it as an honour to perform their music, in association with The Cavern Club, on tour.”

The Cavern Beatles will perform at The Oldham Coliseum on May 5 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £18 (£16 concessions) and are available online from www.colosseum.org.uk or by calling: 0161 624 2829.
