IT might be 40 years since the filming of blockbuster Yanks, starring Richard Gere, across Saddleworth – but the annual celebrations are going stronger than ever.
And this year to mark four decades since the Hollywood star visited the area, organisers want to track down anyone involved as the filming.
They want to hear from anybody who took part as extras and might want to write a short piece about their experiences.
As 2019 is also 75 years since D-Day, they also want to hear from anyone who had relatives who served the King and were involved in the landings from June 6, 1944.
Stephen Holt, volunteer team member for the Yanks Weekend, said: “We are going to be producing a 1940s newspaper for the event and so are looking for articles around the area.
“The stories will then be published for this newspaper dedicated for the event.”
This year’s Yanks extravaganza will take place on August 10-11 when the annual military and vehicle parade returns.
And the ‘Yanks’ will set up camp once more at Saddleworth School from 10am on both the Saturday and Sunday.
If you would like to submit a piece of writing to be published in the newspaper, email Stephen Holt at: firstname.lastname@example.org
