A CHARITY event to mark the second anniversary of the death of an heroic police constable from Diggle takes place on Saturday, September 13.
PC Nicola Hughes, 23, and PC Fiona Bone, were investigating a hoax burglary when they were killed in a grenade and gun attack.
Chasing Rainbows, the fundraising team set up by the Diggle police officer’s family and friends, has organised a day of events to celebrate Nicola’s life.
They are inviting people to take part in a sponsored half-marathon or 10k run from Heyrod Community Centre in Stalybridge to Diggle, with registration from 11am for the run at 12noon.
For those who prefer to walk, there is a four-mile walk from Mossley Fire Station to Diggle at the same time.
This will be followed by an afternoon event at the Hanging Gate, Diggle, from 1pm to 3pm, with children’s activities, dancing, face painting, a barbecue, hog roast, live music and a charity auction.
The event, which was also held last year, will raise money for the North West Police Benevolent Fund and The Firefighters Charity.
