VOLUNTEERS ARE on a mission to use their creative skills to produce unique upcycled items while reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
Every Friday the team of up to 15 from homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley work together to create upcycled products ranging from shabby chic cabinets and tables to fashionable fabric bags and patterned glassware.

The products are made from donated materials and sold in the Emmaus Mossley superstore on Queen Street, helping to raise funds for the charity as well as reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
The upcycling group is mentored by local artist Tonie Rigby and skills developed by the volunteers include sewing, stitching, printing, painting, sanding and cutting.
Members have commented that being part of the group gives them an opportunity to socialise, learn new skills, do something useful and feel part of the Emmaus Mossley family.
Denise Hartle, a volunteer at Emmaus Mossley, said: “I was planning to attend once every two weeks. Two years on I’ve attended every week and I love every minute of it.
“There’s so much camaraderie and skills to learn and I look forward to attending each week.
“It’s satisfying to know the products we make help to support the valuable work of Emmaus and inspire other people to do their own upcycling projects.”
Alison Hill, Project Director at Emmaus Mossley, said: “We’re really proud and grateful for the work done by all our volunteers and the contribution they make.
“Our upcycled group are playing an important role in reducing waste, making use of overflow items, increasing income and creating new interest in the products sold at our social enterprise.”
The weekly group is currently at full capacity but Emmaus Mossley has now launched a monthly group on the second Saturday of every month. For more details or to join the next Saturday group visit: www.facebook.com/emmausmossley.
