SADDLEWORTH MALE Voice Choir has bid farewell to their long-serving Musical Director Damian J Cunningham as he moves on to pastures new.

Members of the choir gathered together with wives, patrons and friends at the Uppermill Conservative Club to send off Damian, who was first appointed in 1997.
Since then his musical expertise, enthusiasm, sense of humour and disciplined dedication to the Choir has been a stimulus and encouragement to all members.
Success in festivals and popularity on the concert platform, including the annual Messiah performance, are all indications of the positive impact he has made.
During his 17 years in the role, entry into competitions has seen the Choir win 20 first prizes and he is responsible for the Choir’s three CD recordings, including ‘With a Voice of Singing’ in March 2005 to mark their 50th Anniversary.
These recordings remain a lasting testament to the high standard Damian has achieved with the Choir. The Choir has also appeared on BBC show ‘Songs of Praise’ and recorded several items for the Sunday night radio programme ‘Sunday Half Hour’.
Damian’s recent promotion to Director of Schools for the Shrewsbury Diocese will demand more of his time and he has, reluctantly, decided to step down rather than give less than 100 per cent to the Choir.
