Church banners set to fly high for Whit Friday walks across Saddleworth

Banners will fly high as churches across Saddleworth step out on to the streets to mark the Whit Friday celebrations on May 25 with their Walks of Witness.

Delph: At 9am, Delph Band will lead a procession through the village before a Joint Service with the Methodists and Church of England at 9.30am. Followed by a Walk of Witness.

Denshaw: Procession will form at church gates on Huddersfield Road at 9.45am. Walk round the village, singing hymns at various points.

Kilngreen, Diggle: Church procession leaves Kilngreen at 9.15am. Hymn on Sam Road and a short service at The Gate Inn then process to King George Playing Field, Uppermill for joint service at 11am.

Dobcross: Short service at Sandy Lane/The Square at 9.45am. Process to King George Playing Field, Uppermill for a joint service at 11am.

Friezland and Lydgate: Christ Church Friezland and St Anne’s Lydgate join together, assembling at 10am outside Christ Church. Process to King George Playing Field, Uppermill for a joint service at 11am.

Greenfield: Service at St. Mary’s at 9am. Process to Road End for a joint service with Greenfield Methodist followed by procession around the village.

Uppermill: St Chad and Sacred Heart meet for short service at 9.30am at St Chad then process to via Wellmeadow and The Parish Centre to King George Playing Field, Uppermill for joint service at 11am.

Uppermill: Uppermill Methodist and Ebenezer meet at School Street at 9am. Process to King George Playing Field, Uppermill for United Church Service at 11am.

Road closures will be in place throughout the day. Look out for more details on signposts and road signs locally.
