THE Saddleworth School year eight cricket team defeated Audenshaw School in the U13’s County Cup to set up a tie against Bury Grammar School in round three of the prestigious competition.

Restricting Audenshaw to 74-5 at Saddleworth Cricket Club in their 20 overs, the hosts used nine different bowlers in their attack. Max Godley and skipper Will Potts with a brace of wickets apiece.
In reply Joe Aston (34 no) and Oliver Sleight (caught on 32) forged a 66-run partnership to steady the ship after the early loss of three wickets.
The team even sported a playing mascot as George Barnes donned his tiger outfit to pose for pictures during and at the end of the match ahead of his T20 duties at Austerlands later in the evening.

The year eight cricket team had defeated opponents from Bolton for the second time in a fortnight in the County Cup.
Having disposed of Thornleigh in the preliminary round, they followed this up with an away victory over Turton High School.
Restricting the hosts to 71-7 in their 20 overs the Saddleworth team took the opportunity to experiment with their batting order as they edged to the required target for the loss of five wickets with 10 deliveries remaining.
The team performed admirably in the field with George Partington and Aston leading the bowling with a brace of wickets each.

SADDLEWORTH School’s year seven cricket team defeated Bluecoat to progress to round two of the Oldham Schools’ Cup.
The hosts restricted Bluecoat to 49-8 in their 20 overs and secured the required runs with five overs to spare.
Player-of-the-match was Odhran Tiffany who bowled out two opponents and caught out a third. Tom Ackroyd showed up well with the bat notching 20 runs before being trapped LBW.
Next up for the team will be an away quarter final tie at either Hulme or Royton and Crompton after the half-term break.
