AN AWARD-WINNING will writer has signed up to a new hard-hitting scheme to help protect his customers.

Ray Withnall, owner of Hay Tarn Willwriting Services in Diggle, was crowned the Institute of Professional Willwriters’ ‘Willwriter of the Year 2013’ for establishing, supporting and promoting an active network for over 50 north-west members.
And to balance his success with customer care, the company has become one of the first nationwide to join the Trading Standards Institute’s new scheme to clamp down on poor practices in the sector.
The scheme aims to give consumers greater confidence in TSI Approved firms in many sectors to reduce poor practices including poor quality of work, loss of money paid in advance, high pressure sales and cancellation rights.
Ray said: “As a condition of our membership of the Institute of Professional Willwriters, Hay Tarn have consistently operated to high standards and I am delighted to be an early adopter of the new standard.”
Ray set up the company after redundancy in IT project management and accountancy, and has also arranged training courses to provide professional development for the group.
He said: “Writing Wills is sometimes a lonely occupation, and building up a business from scratch is not easy.
“But the support from the IPW and TSI makes a big difference. It is a pleasure to develop and maintain a friendly group network and create regular opportunities to learn from each other.
“It is satisfying to know we are making a difference in the legal profession.”
