Daredevil thrill seekers are being urged to support a much-loved charity as they celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team is staging a sponsored Abseil Challenge at Oldham Civic Centre to mark their milestone.
Would-be high fliers, under the team’s expert guidance, will make their 180-foot descent on Sunday, April 13.
“It’s a genuine challenge,” said an OMRT spokesman, “And an experience that will remain in the memory for years.
“Our team members will be right there with you to guide you through every step and to offer support should your courage waver!”
OMRT organised a similar sponsored abseil in 2006 when, as part of an internal training programme, employees in the council’s IT department chose them as beneficiaries.
“The council have generously allowed us access to run the event again and it will be our first major fundraiser since we replaced the two Land Rovers,” added the spokesman.
The last event raised £6,000 for the team, who are dubbed the Angels of the snowsafter turning out on more than 120 rescues in a month during blizzards four years ago.
In return for sharing the thrill of this year’s experience, each participant is asked to pledge £200 to the OMRT fund.
Entrants must be at least 18 years old, commit to raising at least £200 and set up a ‘justgiving’ page to collect donations. They must be available at any time on the event day, and will be allocated a two-hour window and informed of this prior to the event.
With places limited, early booking is advised and to sign up entrants should create a justgiving page at OMRT’s page www.justgiving.com/oldham-mrt and click “Raise Money For Us”.
Once you have a just giving page you can book your place by completing the sign-up form.
